North County San Diego is alive with the sound of music almost all the time, and we’re not just talking about your neighbor’s teenage garage band! There are some insanely talented established and new musical acts around just about any corner. Here are some to get you started, but you’ll definitely want to hang onto this list and add more as you find them.

The Landings at Carlsbad

Do you have friends flying in to visit you? Plan on lingering at the airport after they get their luggage. You can treat them to super delicious cuisine at The Landings at Carlsbad airport lounge while you watch aircraft take off and land. On Wednesday through Sunday, enjoy live music from bands like Heart of Leo, Jim Gibson, and 40 Proof.

Carlsbad TGIF Concerts in the Parks

If you and your posse like your music with a side of squirrel, take advantage of the Carlsbad TGIF Concerts in the Parks series, sponsored by the City of Carlsbad. The price is affordable—can you say, “Free!”—and there are activities for families with kids, too. Don’t bother bringing food (though you’re welcome to if you want), because you’ll find all manor of food vendors ready to serve up a variety of flavors for you to enjoy. Uber and Lyft are getting in on the action, too, offering discounts and free rides for those booking with the code you’ll find on the city website.

Encinitas Sunday Summer Concerts by the Sea

Let the ocean breeze flow through your hair as you enjoy live bands on the stage at the Encinitas Sunday Summer Concerts by the Sea series. Whatever style of music jazzes you, you’ll find it at these outdoor events where you can dance, walk the beach and watch the sun go down. Remember that no pets, glass, or alcohol is permitted. You won’t miss them, because each live concert date includes demos and exhibits and lots of free giveaways! This is a perfect date night setting, hint, hint!

San Marcos Summer Concerts in the Gardens

If this is the first time you’ve heard of the Wood House Gardens in Woodland Park, you can thank us later. Even if you’re not into the music scene, you’ll want to make the trip. For live music, though, visit on specified dates in July, August and September. Pay each time or get a season pass for a nominal charge. The San Marcos Summer Concerts in the Gardens are really something special to enjoy with a loved one. It’s a great for a birthday treat or any kind of celebration. Bring your own beach chairs or blanket, but snacks and drinks can be purchased on site. Fido has to stay behind to guard the house unless he’s a service dog.

Remember folks, drinking and driving aren’t mixers for music or anything else. Why not use Uber or Lyft or even the Coaster train?
