The sand, the sun and the surf are powerful reasons to consider buying a home in the communities of Carlsbad, Oceanside, Encinitas, La Costa, Vista or San Marcos. However, buying a home with its own casita has numerous added benefits for North County San Diego homeowners.


What is a Casita?


A casita is a small, usually detached, living area, included with the main single family home. Although they can be attached, or semi-attached, most are separated from the main house and often have their own entrance and access for privacy. Typically designed as a comfortable suite with a full bath, some casitas are built with a basic kitchen or kitchenette as well.


Why Buy a Home with a Casita?

One of the many reasons our family enjoys living and conducting business in North San Diego is our beautiful golf courses. Many of these courses are not just beautiful and a good source of exercise, many are focal points of communities that surround them. Here's a closer look at five of these terrific golf courses.


Aviara Golf Club - 7447 Batiquitos Drive, Carlsbad, CA 92011


The Aviara Golf Club is San Diego's only golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. This gorgeous par 72, 18 hole course traverses over 7,007 yards of rolling hillside. There’s plenty of bunkers and water to challenge you and the course is landscaped with Southern California native wildflowers.


Rack Rates Monday thru Friday are $230 and Friday thru Sunday $250. Midday Rates Monday thru Thursday are $165 and Friday thru Sunday $185. Twilight/Jr/Replay Rates are $115 Monday thru Thursday and $135 Friday thru Sunday. Tee times can be scheduled from 7:00am thru 6:00pm. To become a member there is a $1500 initiation fee and monthly dues are between $695 and $895. Members get $95 savings on weekdays and weekends.


Encinitas Ranch - 1275 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024


Encinitas Ranch is on a sweep of bluffs that keeps the ocean in sight from every hole on the course. It is an 18 hole, par 72 course with elevation changes that adds to the challenge and the beauty. The course is 6,600 yards of picturesque play.


Rates vary greatly for this daily fee golf course, ranging from $15 for Junior’s who are JC Players Card holder’s during weekdays, to $103 for weekend and holiday rates for the public. Tee times can be scheduled starting at 7:00am and may be made up to 7 days in advance.


The Crossings at Carlsbad – 5800 the Crossings Drive. Carlsbad, CA 92008


Another of San Diego’s beautiful golf courses with stunning views, this 18 hole course spans over 6,800 yards of sculpted tees, fairways and greens. With the Pacific Ocean to the West and the foothills rising to the East, the course invites golfers to “enjoy the views, experience the golf.” As a municipal course, proof of residency is required for resident rates.


Crossings Club memberships are $219 and $199 for senior memberships. Tee times may be reserved as early as 6:00am. Rates are available depending on whether you are a Carlsbad resident, Southern California resident, Crossings Club member or a member of the general public. Greens fees range from $59 to $110.


Shadowridge Golf Club - 1980 Gateway Dr. Vista, CA 92081


Shadowridge Golf Club is located in the rural foothills of San Diego’s floral growing region. This championship course is exceptionally well-kept. Enjoy 18 holes of golf and a variety of other amenities and social programs at this club that was first opened in 1981.


Levels of membership packages include Shadowridge ONE, Beyond the Club, and The CLUBCORP Advantage. Each includes a variety of member benefits and you should contact Shadowridge for specific pricing on the membership for you.


Arrowood Golf Course – 5201 Village Drive, Oceanside California 92008


This golf course promotes itself as challenging, fair, and memorable. It is an 18 hole championship course with a par of 71. This stunning course is along the rolling hills in Oceanside.


A single membership has a $2000 initiation fee with $250 monthly dues. A Family membership has a $3000 initiation fee with $350 monthly dues. Corporate and weekday only memberships are also available. Greens fees for San Diego resident rates are $54 Monday thru Thursday, $60 on Fridays and $78 on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Southern California residents can play for $64 Monday thru Thursday, $70 on Fridays, and $88 on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Rates for the general public are $92 on Monday thru Thursday, $97 on Fridays and $117 for Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
