Kindness Meters

One of our most surprising campaigns was the Carlsbad Kindness Meters Project. Carlton Lund conceived the idea of making Carlsbad "America's Kindest City" during his work to resurrect the Carlsbad Sign. To accomplish this goal, Carlton spearheaded a movement to install Kindness Meters in various locations around North County, such as the Agua Hedionda Lagoon, TipTop Meats, the Vista Civic Center, and even a traveling Kindness Meter given to the organization Kids for Peace.
The Kindness meters intent was to encourage spontaneous philanthropy, as each Kindness meter’s donation goes to charitable organizations. The solar powered meters were donated by San Diego-based parking meter company, IPS Group, Inc. and accept credit cards donations for several North County Charities. 100% of the proceeds collected at these meters go directly to organizations such as the Carlsbad Educational Foundation, Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation, Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, and The Moonlight Cultural Foundation. The Carlsbad Sign Project

On January 8th, 2015, the City of Carlsbad gathered to light their new sign spanning historic Highway 101 the Carlsbad Village Drive intersection. Carlton Lund was instrumental in resurrecting this beautiful sign that was inspired by the original sign that hung nearby in the 1920's. As a member of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Carlton was able to encourage the Chamber to take up the cause in 2014. The sign was a gift to the city commemorating 90 years of service acting as the unified voice of business from the Chamber.

Through many years of hard work and determination, Carlton was able to secure a $225,000 donation from local business Taylor-Made golf for the project, as well as the donation of the Kindness Meters from the IPS Group, Inc. This ensured the the residents of Carlsbad would be able to enjoy the sign without public funding. LEGOLAND

The Lund Team were among the first supporters of bringing LEGOLAND® to Carlsbad in the late 1990's. Carlton & Sandy Lund were fierce advocates for securing the property for the wonderful attraction that millions of people have enjoyed since its opening on March 20th, 1999.

Carlsbad Desalination Plant

The Carlsbad Desalination plant, which opened December 14, 2015, is "the nation's most technologically advanced and energy-efficient seawater desalination plant" according to the San Diego County Water Authority. The plant now provides an estimated 50 Million gallons of clean water to North County residents using reverse osmosis. Carlton and Sandy Lund were early supporters of bringing this project to Carlsbad to provide the city residents with an alternative source of clean water which is especially important during times of drought in the region.

Carlsbad Educational Foundation

Carlton and Sandy Lund were recognized in May 2015 by the Carlsbad Educational Foundation at the annual Carlsbad Day celebration for their contribution of $18,000 since 1997 when they made the first contribution to the "Kids are Worth a Million" campaign. That campaign went on to raise over $1 Million for the Carlsbad School District. Learn more about the Carlsbad Day recognition in our blog.

The Lund Team continues to contribute to the Carlsbad Educational Foundation through donations, as well as through promoting donations through the Kindness Meters in Carlsbad.
